Our Inspiration

Where The Chimney Stack Began

Where The Chimney Stack Began

Long before The Chimney Stack started serving chimney cakes at festivals, we had the opportunity to experience how this treasured tradition is made at home.

Our inspiration came from the Hungarian Székely tradition of Transylvania, where kürtőskalács has been made for generations using simple tools, an open fire, and the help of family and friends gathered together.

We were blessed to have Magdolna Sárközy show us the process — preparing and rolling the dough by hand, wrapping it around the forms, and slowly turning it over glowing coals until beautifully golden.

Over the Coals

The chimney cakes are slowly rotated over glowing coals as the outside becomes golden and caramelized.

A Tradition Made With What You Have

The equipment was simple — and sometimes a little unconventional.

Those forms wrapped in aluminum foil?

We had to empty the Tall Boys first before we could wrap them in foil and put them to work. 🍺🔥

It may not have been fancy, but that was part of what made the experience so memorable.

Simple tools. Hot coals. Good people. A precious cultural tradition passed from one generation to the next.

Our Original Baking Forms

Before we had professional equipment, we made use of what was available — including foil-wrapped Tall Boy cans.

From Transylvania to The Chimney Stack

That experience became part of the inspiration for The Chimney Stack.

Today, as we make chimney cakes at festivals here in the USA, we try to carry a little piece of that tradition with us — the handmade process, the fire, the aroma, and the experience of bringing people together around something fresh and special.

Inspired by Transylvania. Made fresh in America.

From our family to yours — at a festival near you. ❤️🤍💚
